The Hot Meals Ministry at St. Luke's is dedicated to providing nutritional enrichment to those less fortunate than ourselves. For those willing to roll up their sleeves and serve God's people in a hands-on capacity, this might be the perfect calling for you!
St. Luke’s coordinates with First Presbyterian Church in Metuchen to collect non-perishable food to distribute through their food pantry. Food is collected every Sunday in the baskets in the back of the church and Fryer Hall and then delivered to the food pantry.

Prayer Shawls are knitted or crocheted and praying very much plays a part in this ministry. A prayer is said when the person knitting or crocheting begins to work. A prayer is also selected to be included with the shawl. When the shawl is complete it is given to Fr. Michael to bless before being given to the recipient.. The shawls are given by the pastoral care team to provide comfort and love for those in need, as well as in celebration and joy. Simple patterns and prayers are available, but any prayer shawl pattern may be used.

Town Clock Development is a permanent housing program for abused and homeless women and their children for whom St. Luke’s has been providing support for many years.
Each year during Advent we present a Christmas gift bag to the moms containing a $25 gift card, as well as travel-size toiletries, fancy soaps, makeup, lotions, etc. The collection of toiletries and gift cards usually begins in November.

The Hot Meals Ministry has been in existence for decades, beginning at Grace Church in New Brunswick. Today, it is anchored at St. Luke's and principally serves the distressed community at St. Mark's Church in Keansburg. This area has fallen on hard times and is still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
Every fourth Sunday, from September to June (we take off July and August), our wonderful volunteers gather after the 8am service and head down to St. Mark's, groceries in hand. Once there, we prepare and package approximately 80 hot meals for the parish to dispense at its Community Center. And we also have our "hidden angels" who bake desserts and treats for us to bring with us.
It's a beautiful way to give back, and we are blessed with a team of "regulars" who give up their Sunday mornings to serve. But we can always use more help!

St. Luke’s is proud to Sponsor the Good Shepherd Home for Children in Bamenda, Cameroon, West Africa.
This orphanage was introduced to us by Elizabeth Rankin who has written about her time there in I Am That Child. Debbie Sharp Loeb instituted the Clip a Dollar program to support a child with epilepsy. That child was able to go home to extended family, and when Katherine Young visited the orphanage in Cameroon in 2014 a new child was assigned. Because there is some turnover of children when situations in their families change, the program is now a general sponsorship and not for a specific child.
We have pledged $30 a month towards sponsorship.
Parishioners are asked to place a paperclip, which can be found on the cards in the pews, on their donations towards our sponsorship. You may also send a check to the church denoting Good Shepherd Home in the memo line. Many thanks for your continued support!
